Peter and His Crush

Talks at the Codington dinner table always promise to be memorable. All nine of us were sitting around the table as usual tonight… cracking jokes and repeating funny lines from favorite movies. At one point, Johnny (14 years old) busted out with “Kissing’s my favorite food!” in a high-pitched voice (from the musical Oklahoma, for those of you who are unfamiliar). It was good for me… my stomach hasn’t hurt that bad from laughing in a long time.

Conversation moved on to other more exciting topics. One of our favorite topics of conversation is people’s crushs… the younger ones (especially the boys) are getting to the age where they’re starting to notice the cute little girls at Sunday school. Even Davy’s onto his third girlfriend already (he’s 8 years old - I guess his poetry is making girls fall left and right) … the first one was Hollin followed by Samantha… and now it’s Daisy (Davy’s leaning over my shoulder right now with a beaming smile on his face — I had to get permission from him to write that).

Peter

Peter (soon to be 11 years old) is a different story on the other hand. There’s a girl in his Sunday school class named Rachel who he’s had his eye on for some time now… he sent her an anonymous Valentines card, and they talk about the Bible during Sunday school. He was talking about her at dinner tonight and the conversation went something like this…

Peter — “She found out that I like her, and now she likes me too. But now we can’t talk anymore because it’s just too embarrassing.”
Betsy — “Well, how will you guys be friends now if you don’t talk?”
Peter — “We smile at each other now! She’ll look over at me, and I’ll smile at her… and then she’ll have a double-take and look at me again.. and then she’ll smile.”

Peter

They try to tease me about my crush… Peter originally told me that the only way he was going to let me write about him on here was if I first ‘fessed up’ and wrote about my little crush. I convinced him that everyone already knew… :)
