What A Day
Friends, Romans, and family members… lend me your laughter.
In light of today’s events, I decided to write a humerous story to make everything that happened all a little more light-hearted… I hope you will all enjoy.
It all started with me hallucinating around 3:43 a.m. I dreamed I heard my roommate jump out of bed and shout, “I don’t know what it is, but we got to get out of here!” There was beeping in my dream… it was kind of far off in the distance. It gradually got louder and louder. Then I dreamed the bright florescent lights in my room got flipped on. Then around 3:45 a.m. I woke up to my roommates jumping out of bed. I came to, and realized I wasn’t dreaming… and the beeping was the fire alarm for the THIRD time this semester. We were hustled out of the building up to the chapel. I wanted to grab my gold fish and put them in a plastic bag to take them with me but my RA said there wasn’t time… I shed a tear or two.
Around 3:51 a.m., I was walking up to the chapel in the cold… I was trying to bury my scruffy face and blood-shot eyes in my coat. We made it to the chapel… I was a little mad. Half of the girl’s halls were giggling and saying things like, “These fire alarm drills are always so fun! It’s always a race to get dressed and look as beautiful as possible for all the guys that early in the morning!” I found an empty row in the chapel and tried to lay down over three chairs… it didn’t really work, but all I wanted was to be warm and quiet.
Around 5:03 a.m., my RD came to tell us that a pipe burst behind Carter that caused all the pressure in the Mac pipes to be unstable. That, for OBVIOUS reasons, caused the fire alarm to go off (why wouldn’t it?) …and it would continue to go off every five minutes until they shut the whole system down. I finally walked up to Carter Lobby and found an empty sofa to lay down on. I dosed for the next hour and a half…
I finally heard someone say we could go back to Mac around 6:45 a.m. I got up and walked back to Mac… I crawled back into bed and slept until 12:00 p.m.
Ok, it wasn’t that bad of a day once I was able to sleep. I showered and walked up to the great hall to have lunch with my roommate. I had finite math from 2:30 to 3:45, and I am now about to head up to dinner.
I just want to say that I cannot WAIT to be home in another 24 hours… where food is home-cooked and where fire alarms don’t go off at 3:45 in the morning!
Amen and amen.

My sympathies. I feel worse for the students who actually didn’t go to sleep at all and went to their morning classes. Like the girls taking an exam at 8 this morning for ed psych. The couch in carter idea was a good one… I saw so many Mac halls eating breakfast this morning bright and early. Probabaly the only breakfast they’ve eaten all year ;)
