Pillowcase Presbyterian
I woke up at 7:30 a.m. to the sound of my phone ringing. Bets was calling me. I picked up and answered in a raspy voice, “Hello?” It sounded like I had just smoked three packs of cigarettes over the last hour. It felt like it too… Bets answered, “You need a ride to New City in a little while? I’m leaving at 9:15 a.m. if you want to drive with me.” I nodded my head, somehow thinking that she would hear that. Then I realized and managed to squeeze out a, “yeah, I’ll be there.”
I hung up the phone and laid back down. I could at least sleep until 8:30 before I would have to get up and shower. I closed my eyes… “beep beep, Beep Beep, BEep BEep, BEEP BEEP!!” I had only just laid down and closed my eyes, and my alarm was already sounding. It was 8:30, and it was time for me to get out of bed. I rolled out, and stumbled into the bathroom.
My throat was raw from coughing all night, nevermind the fact that my nose and throat were stuffed up. I could hardly breathe, and every time I tried, I just coughed and hacked again. I looked in the mirror… my eyes were bloodshot, my hair was messy and tangled, and the nicely shaved five-o-clock shadow had turned into scruff. I coughed again… church wasn’t happening today. Even if I did manage to get a shower and get dressed (which was unlikely), I would have been coughing and in pain the whole service. I called Bets up, and told her I’d be attending Pillowcase Presbyterian instead. Or as my good friend said, I was “resting in the Lord.”

Wow… that was entertaining ;) I suppose my being a Bedside Baptist today doesn’t help your conscience any. I’ve decided we need to kick this flu bug, ok? ok.
