Long…But New Days Begin

Monday, August 27th, 2007

It’s been a good, long, daunting, and exciting start to the fall semester. I’m tackling 18 credit hours with Statistics, Accounting I, Christian Doctrine, Microeconomics, Intro to Art, and Chorale. I have never been so excited starting into a new semester. I’m excited about what God is going to be teaching me and where He is going to be leading me this year… anywhere from classes to friendships to the Five Points. I’m excited about the changes that are happening on campus. The new residence hall is up and running, and the new academic building is making progress towards the spring deadline. But past the new building changes, I’m excited about the people.. the new RAs, RDs, professors, and even our own beloved chaplain Aaron Messner who gave his first chapel talk this morning. What a blessing to be a part of this change, growth, and maturing spreading throughout campus.

Naptime

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

Sunday afternoons = the perfect time to take a nap… word of advice to people out there who are on the fence about studying or working on Sundays. I don’t think there is anything wrong with studying on Sundays, and sometimes you have to… but my older brother Wim encouraged me to take Sundays completely off and keep that as a day of rest. It has been an amazing and refreshing time during the week for me. Just a thought.

The Peasall Sisters…

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

…come to Covenant College on August 25, 2007. They are performing for the second time at Covenant this fall at 6:00 p.m. on the chapel lawn. The first time I ever saw them was my freshman year at Covenant when they opened for a Shane and Shane concert in Chattanooga. Good memories and good times. The Peasall Sisters

Men and Women’s Soccer

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

It’s Saturday, August 25th… and the men and women’s soccer seasons are officially starting off with their first games against Trinity Christian College. Last week the men’s soccer team played a scrimmage against Carson Newman… tying them 1 to 1.

Covenant Soccer

The men’s soccer team plays at 1:00 p.m. today, and the women’s soccer team plays at 3:30 p.m. I’m excited about getting out there and watching them play. I was talking with Alec Waller the other day about the games, and he said that the teams always play better with the Covenant students cheering them on in the stands. Anything from the traditional Scots chants to the bagpipes and the drums.. to just shouting and applause. The varsity soccer chant alone at the start of every game is exciting enough to spurr on the Covenant students who attend the games.

Portrait of a Sister

Friday, August 24th, 2007

Caroline Wilhelmina Codington… one of four of my sisters. I said a while ago that I would tell you of the many faces and portraits that make up my family. Well, here is another one… my youngest sister, Carrie.

 Carrie

Carrie was the first of all my brothers and sisters to be born outside the US. Two weeks after we moved to Sheffield, England in 1995, Carrie was born… Born at the end of July, she was like one of my birthday presents considering my birthday was a mere week later.

Carrie is the girly girl of the family. She carries a beautiful and vivid imagination. It’s no hard task for her to spend hours playing house with her dolls. She has a sweet and servant-hearted spirit, always quick to help my mom in the kitchen. And more often than not, the mail in my mailbox has her name in the top left corner. I could sit here and write the many good qualities that Carrie possesses… but I feel as if I wouldn’t be doing justice without also mentioning that she is the best (hands down) out of my five younger siblings at finding my buttons and pushing them. :) Needless to say, I wouldn’t trade her for anything… and Carrie, if you’re reading this… I love you.

Back on the Five Points

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

I’m back to Covenant now… and back on the Five Points. Last night we had our first hall meeting with the guys that have arrived so far – mainly just the freshman and a few upperclassmen who have been here for Orientation Team. I’m loving my hall… it’s only been a day and we’ve all already started bonding and finding out things about ourselves. What a blessing! Thank you, God.

Today is the second day of Orientation.. i’m excited about my small group and the enthusiasm that they all show. I have loved getting to know them. It’s going to be a crazy awesome year.

Summer Summary

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

It’s been a good long summer… I need to offer an apology for not writing on here as often as I would have liked or as often as I should have. I am spending the week at Smith Mountain Lake outside of Roanoke, VA at the moment… my mom’s side of the family is having another one of our yearly family reunions. It’s been a beautiful break from life in general. I’ve had the opportunity to sit, journal, watch some stupid shows on tv, take pictures, take late night swims with my cousins (didn’t get to bed until 2:00 a.m. last night … which is late considering i’ve gone to bed by 10:00 or 11:00 p.m. every other night this summer), play kickball with about 20 of my little cousins in the blazing sun, and drink natural root beer while talking about cars with my granddad – the former Calculus professor at Covenant, known as Dr. Schaffers. :) It’s been a good week, to say the least.
