Dorm Life
Someone asked me to describe what dorm life at Covenant is like. I’m sorry I’m a little late in actually writing a post about it… it’s been a busy couple of weeks as I have been wrapping up the semester with papers and exams.
So what are the dorms like? What is dorm life like? Where to begin…
I guess I’ll start with the fact that a new residence hall is currently under construction. It is actually being built where Blood Field (the old parking lot) used to stand, right next to Maclellan Hall. I can’t remember exactly when they started, but the actual construction only started around Christmas. It’s April now, and the entire structure has been put up. They’re beginning to work on putting up dry wall, stone, and the roof (as of two or three days ago). It’s pretty exciting! If everything goes to plan, people will be moving in the new dorm (which is yet to be named) by the fall semester of 2007.
As for the rest of campus, for those of you who don’t know, there are three residence halls. Carter Hall is the oldest one. It actually used to be the old hotel building before Covenant was founded in 1955. Though I have never actually lived in it before, i’ve been told that it has a lot of character. There are a lot of really awesome halls - namely, 2nd South and 2nd Central (but hey, i’m just biased :). Before I moved to the Five Points (in Maclellan), I was going to be on either 2nd South or 2nd Central.
The second main residence hall on campus is Founders Hall, right in the middle of campus. It’s also one of the older residence halls, but again - has a lot of character. Catacombs (the basement of Founders), I would venture to say, is undoubtedly one of the more well-known halls around campus (if you ever come to Covenant, you’ll find out why). It’s pretty awesome. A lot of my good friends live on the Combs.
And lastly, there is Maclellan Hall. I live on the Five Points, which is on the second floor. Mac is the newest of the halls (at least until the fall). I can’t really say that any one residence hall or dorm is better than they other - they are all different and unique in their own ways, which is awesome because it adds a lot of variety to Covenant campus.
That pretty much sums up the on-campus residence halls. There are a number of people who live off-campus or in the student apartments down the hill as well. But hey! I kind of like it..

Everyone is biased toward his own hall. That’s just how it works! That said, obviously our hall, The Five Points is the best…

Thanks for telling about the dorms, Philip. That’s cool there’s a new one coming up. Guess that means they’re expecting more students, huh? Is there a pic of the new bldg? Maybe I’ll get to check it out during preview weekend.

Jules: I am providing a link to Covenant College’s capital campaign website. The section that has the building progress photos is called Projects Progress page. You can view more information about the new residence hall here. Hope this helps!

i would have to disagree with comment #1.
I believe that the catacombs is the best hall on campus. Sure it may be a little dusty and at times it might smell a little bit different then most halls but! Do you have an EBP? do you have concerts that take place on your hall as we do ours? do you hold toga parties? do you have an aquarium with killer fish in it? I think not…..
And these are just a few of the things that make Catacombs…the place to be.
