“It’s Common Sense”

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

President Nielson of Covenant College sent me an interesting article that was written by a “committed homosexual.” It presents a different view of the Equality Ride, particularly in terms of the arrests that were made at Covenant College on April 2.

Four of the Equality Riders that came to Covenant College on Monday, April 2 were indeed arrested for trespassing on Covenant property. The Covenant Administration warned them beforehand that if they trespassed on the college campus, there would be police to arrest them. Throughout the course of the morning, there was much dialogue and conversation between the Riders and Covenant students, as I mentioned in my previous post. I enjoyed the conversations, and I was glad that I had the opportunity to be open-minded and loving to the people who came.

But as I also stated in my previous post, I stand by the Administration in their decision not to allow the Equality Riders onto campus. The article linked above by Adrien-Luc Sanders states good and logical reasons that Covenant had as a college not to allow them onto campus. As he stated, “It’s not discrimination, it’s common sense.” I believe it is important to understand both sides of the story… and the article approached the issue logically and accurately.
