Spring Banquet

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

Spring Banquet at Covenant is coming up… actually in about four hours! I should probably start thinking about that. I just called a few people about riding with them to the Hunter Art Museum down in downtown Chattanooga where it’s going to be taking place. It’s exciting! Oh the joys of being a guy… and just having to pull out my suit 15 minutes before it’s time to walk out the door :)

I’ll be posting some pictures on here later, along with a story or two of the evening… I would tell you all about it right now, but seeing as it’s my first time going, I believe i’ll wait until after the fact.

New Residence Hall

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

The new residence hall is going up fast and furiously… they’re almost done with the steel structure, and they’re starting to put up drywall. It’s going to be done and ready to go by the time the fall semester of 2007 rolls around. It’ll be interesting to see how things will change on campus…

Equality Ride

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

For the last several weeks and months, the Equality Riders for the Soulforce Equality Ride have been a topic of discussion at Covenant College. The Riders are a group of people who are against discrimination of gays, lesbians, bi-sexuals, and transgender people. Their mission statement as quoted from their website (which can be followed using the link above) is “Freedom for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people from religious and political oppression through the practice of relentless nonviolent resistance.”

They requested a visit to the Covenant College campus in the beginning of April 2007 (in a mere week). After much debate, discussion, and prayer, President Nielson announced Covenant’s decision today concerning the matter.

“After much prayer, counsel, and consideration of various options, we have decided not to allow the Equality Ride to visit our campus. We plan to tell them courteously that they cannot enter our campus, and have alerted local law enforcement officials just in case the Riders attempt to do so,” stated President Nielson on March 27, 2007. I know some people wanted to see more of the wedding pictures that I took for Julie and Nick’s wedding, so I thought I would post a few more of them up here. Enjoy… it was such a beautiful day.

First Day of Spring

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

It’s officially the first day of spring today… and the mountain could not have looked more beautiful. It was a sunny day with blue skies, and a nice cool breeze that was cool enough to counteract the heat of the sun.

Life is busy with trying to get assignments, papers, and exams done.. not to mention trying to find roommates for the fall semester, and sorting out the complications of changing a major and sorting out class schedules. I decided to follow in my brother’s footsteps, as well as my dad’s, in the pursuit of a business major. I still love biology… but somehow I couldn’t bring myself to suffer the chemistry, physics, molecular biology, and all the other tedious classes required for a biology major. I’m taking Macroeconomics right now, and somehow it just seems to make so much more sense… I guess I was made to follow my dad with business, and not my mom who graduated Covenant with a clean 4.00 with a double major in chemistry and biology.

But yes, it has been a beautiful day. I love the satisfaction of knowing that I have had a productive day and I can spend some time just relaxing, taking pictures, hanging out, or writing. Good times, right?

Biology and II Timothy 2

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

I just got back from the Great Hall a little while ago.. it’s a beautiful day outside, and even more so that I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel after all the exams and papers the last two weeks. It’s been busy. It’s been hard not to fall into the temptation of believing that God hasn’t been there for me… and it’s been harder to struggle with the temptation of just pushing God aside and trying to do things my own way. Amidst papers, exams, friends that are struggling, and an unmotivation to finish the semester strong… it’s been tough to keep persevering.

I was studying in the Biology laboratory last night from about 7:30 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. I walked in there and opened up the two tall cabinets that said “Taxonomy” on them… and started to go through each shelf, each tray, and each and every specimen bottle in preparation for the biology lab exam that I had this morning at 8:00 a.m.

As I opened the doors of the cabinets, a wiff of hydroxide (or whatever they use to preserve specimens) blew in my direction. I stared at all the jars for a long time… I was completely unmotivated, not to mention completely unprepared for the exam i was going to have in the next 12 hours. Click to continue »

Colossians 1:9-14

Friday, March 16th, 2007

So i haven’t written on here in almost a week and a half. Spring break was last week from March 3-11. I was home in Franklin with my family, which was such an awesome blessing and a good break from classes and the regular schedule. It was nice to actually sleep in and not have to worry about an alarm clock waking me up at 7:00 in the morning.

But yeah – this week and next week are exam and paper week for me. It’s been tough trying to stay on top of everything with studying and writing and homework. I have a Macroeconomics exam at 10:00 this morning…

But before that, I wanted to share a few verses that i’ve been reading the last few days from Colossians. Paul is speaking to the Colossians and encouraging them to listen to God’s will and live lives that are honoring to Him. Click to continue »

Last Day as a Codington

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

Less than a week ago my sister woke up to her last day as a Codington. Now she is Julie Muckerman. I can hardly think of where I should begin writing… perhaps this post will end up being another post that uses pictures to tell a story instead of actual words.

Nick and Julie

March 3, 2007 – I woke up at 7:00 a.m. and was taking pictures by 7:30 a.m. I don’t think I put the camera down until 6:00 p.m. that day. I spent a long time this afternoon just sorting through the 1200 pictures that I took that day. Good times, right? I could not have asked for a more beautiful wedding for my sister Julie. And I could talk non-stop about the honor and privilege that it was to be one of her photographers.

Ever Have Those Days?

Friday, March 9th, 2007

Do you ever have those days that you just sit and think and reminisce about old days? You try to do something constructive or think about something else, but your mind just wanders back to friends you used to know, faces that used to be familiar, places that used to be called home…

Today has been one of those days for me. I’m at home in Franklin for spring break. It’s a Friday afternoon… I’ve been trying to work on a paper that is due next week when I get back to school, but my mind just keeps drifting. I’ve been sorting through more of the wedding pictures from Julie and Nick’s wedding… looking at pictures always brings back a lot of memories for me. I guess it does for anyone. But pictures especially mean a lot to me. I’m a very visual person (if you couldn’t tell from the fact that I love photography), and I love telling a story or remembering a story with pictures instead of words…you know what I mean? Spring Break

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

Last time I checked spring break was for taking a break from the busyness of classes and papers and exams… i’m home in Franklin, and I’ve spent three or four hours in the library every day trying to study and do the three papers that are due when I get back to school. CRAZY! :)

It’s been good to be home though. The weather is amazing… i think today was the first day this year that it’s actually been warmer outside than inside. Good times.
