“Abstain.. from greed, jealousy, pride…”

The last post that I wrote, I talked about Covenant’s prohibition of the use/possession of alcohol and tobacco. It’s amazing how the prohibition of alcohol and tobacco - commonly called “contract” - at Covenant has been a discussion and debate that has been going on for over 10 years now. I imagine if I went back far enough in the history of Covenant, I would be able to find that the debate has been going on all throughout the history of Covenant. It’s not surprising. It’s an issue that seems to raise a lot of question.

But someone pointed out to me on the last post that while we are called to be responsible with our behaviors in terms of contract, we are also called to be responsible with the actions of our heart.

I just wanted to say thank you for pointing me back to that. That isn’t something I always remember… and it’s a lot easier to keep a tab on something that is more tangible like drinking and smoking. But the problems of the heart are just as much if not more of an issue. Thank you for the reminder…
