“Come Ye Sinners”

Monday, November 27th, 2006

Today is the first day back after Thanksgiving break… classes have started up again, and I am preparing for another busy final few weeks. It’s hard to think that I only have another seven days of classes left.

Thanksgiving break was a blessing. I decided to stay on campus over break. It would give me a chance to get caught up in work study hours, as well as spend some time with my sister Bets who had to stay in duty as an RA.

So yeah, I definitely didn’t end up getting as much work done as I should have, but it was a much needed break. I did some paint work for Dr. Kapic, one of the Biblical and Theological professors here at Covenant, on Wednesday. And I spent a lot of time hanging out with Bets – playing tennis, having campfires down by the pond, carving pumpkins, going on walks, and just enjoying an empty campus. It was quite an amazing break.

Thanksgiving

Friday, November 24th, 2006

My family came up to Lookout Mountain to have Thanksgiving dinner with me and Bets, as well as my grandparents. It was amazing! It was good to see my family and get off of campus a little, not to mention the fact that the food was pretty much amazing.

Johnny, my younger brother, came back to campus with me later on in the afternoon to hang out with me and spend the night in my dorm room. It was good to hang out with him, and it reminded me of times when I hung out with my older brother on campus. Good times… Johnny and I went down to 2nd floor of Founders and played some ping pong on the tables down there. Dad bought a ping pong table a couple weeks ago, so whenever I go home, we always play a lot. Johnny is getting a lot better at it, and it’s fun to keep up a good game with him.

Another day in the life..

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

Another day in the life of a Covenant student…Today was the last day of classes at Covenant College before Thanksgiving break. I started the morning with a three hour biology lab followed by my Christian Mind final exam. It was good to have the final Christian Mind exam finished. The Christian Mind course here at Covenant is one of the many required courses, but it is really unique in its own right. It is essentially a course explaining the importance of the Christian liberal arts college, as well as the importance of a Christian education in this modern world. The series of lectures and readings for the Christian Mind course contributed to and expanded my understanding of the importance of having a Christian education. And since the beginning of the course, I have gained a better appreciation for my parents’ desire for me to attend Covenant College.

A beautiful day…

Monday, November 20th, 2006

It’s a beautiful fall day on Lookout Mountain…despite the fact that it is yet another Monday here at Covenant College. The past few days have been a mix of sun, clouds, rain, and blue sky. We even had snow today for the first time this year! I was walking into the Tuck Shoppe on my way to lunch, and people just started shouting from across the chapel lawn. There was definitely the beginning of snow flurries across Covenant campus. Classes are finished for the day. I started out with a meeting with my English professor this morning around 8:00. I talked about my final English paper that I submitted to her last week. She explained to me how the final writing portfolio was going to work and what she expected to be included in it. After that, I went to breakfast in the Great Hall. It’s almost that time – Thanksgiving Break! Click to continue »

Fall colors… and tennis courts

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

So one of my favorite things to do when I need a break from studying is definitely to hit up the tennis courts. I’m not an expert by any means… but who says you have to be an expert to have fun?

Today was definitely one of those days that I just needed a break from the busyness of the week past and of the stressful week to come. It’s a Sunday afternoon. I walked down to the pond behind Jackson Hall with one of my friends… it was such a beautiful day, and it was good to get out into the fresh air and the beautiful fall colors. We walked around the pond and found some amazing leaves. Fall on Lookout Mountain is definitely an unforgetable experience. The change of all the colors is incredible… I’ve had the privilege of growing up overseas and living in a handful of different places. My parents were missionaries for thirteen years, so we got around. But of all the places I have seen, I have never seen a more beautiful fall than what I’m living in right here, right now on Lookout Mountain.

After walking around the pond, we headed back up towards Maclellan Hall to find my sister Bets to play tennis. So yeah, we definitely dragged along some five other people on our way down to the tennis courts. We headed down to the tennis courts and definitely just spent a good two hours playing around! The combination of me, Bets, our crazy-fun friends, and a few tennis balls is pretty much amazing. There is nothing quite like it. We spent the two hours doing anything from doubles, singles, three’s (not sure if there is even a name for that), wall ball, and just practicing our serves…. good times!

It was a much needed breather from studying and the busyness of campus/class life.
